Internationalization in London | VCherish.com
A holistic yet focused academic pursuit is essential for an individual’s bright future. After having completed my Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering (focus on IT), which exposed me to cutting-edge technologies and futuristic advancements that I realized the ubiquitous power of communications and information in an increasingly small world, I was doing reasonably well as a system analyst. But at the back of my mind, I was aware that I was inching towards a stagnant phase in my career, which would mandate a necessary change to drive futuristic professional growth.
To move my career forward and also make a transition from a pure engineering background to myriad opportunities in the business world, I decided to take a year out to pursue a full time post-graduation programme in this domain. Specifically, I wanted to pursue a career in International Business. Therefore, I commenced my research to ascertain the best possible post-graduation study alternatives (faculty, knowledge, expertise, resources, infrastructure, network and alumni) available that would be an appropriate fit, provide me with an ideal platform to build my career and yet be affordable given my budgetary constraints.
My search for an appropriate destination to pursue higher studies led me to the United Kingdom. A number of factors influenced my decision. Foremost, the quality of education the country offers and its cache – you become a part of a globally recognized academic destination and its offerings. And since a career in International Business is what I wanted to pursue, United Kingdom seemed a prudent choice, because of its excellence in this evolving domain, not to forget the opportunity of studying in a country that would abet multi-cultural disposition, problem solving skills, communications dexterity, and innovation. Further, value for money too was an important criterion in my selection.
Taking all factors into consideration, I decided to pursue Post Graduation in International Business from Brunel University, West London, U.K., given its reputation for top-quality research and attainment of a decent ranking for business education. This university seemed the right fit for me. Studying at Brunel turned out to be an amazing experience – one of the best I could have asked for in my life.
Several aspects of Brunel University make studying here a memorable experience: Students, particularly, international students, are treated with great respect. All queries are handled efficiently by the international centre and the student centre. The university invites discerning guest lecturers who augment our understanding of pragmatic business practices. Further, a variety of on-campus activities promote cultural and social events, initiatives or exchanges.
Brunel University has a huge library that caters to all fields of education, and the infrastructure encompasses Wi-Fi, different buildings for different departments, highly sophisticated labs, computer centre and post graduate rooms installed with more than 50 computers each. This facilitates completion of assignments on time and enables us to stay connected with friends and family though the internet.
The university campus has a Cafe (ROCOCO n LOCOS), a pub (bar) known as HUB and a restaurant known as MORE. Moreover, for those who love sports, there is a huge sports hall, lawn tennis, football field and a cricket ground. Every sport is played at Brunel with a sports instructor to always guide you. For health freaks, there is a well equipped gymnasium that can be used by paying a nominal charge.
As goes accommodation, if you don’t know London well and are worried about it, then please leave your worries back home. The on-campus student accommodations are very secure, and the rooms’ cosy, neat and tidy. However, these come with a higher outflow of cash. You can find cheaper off-campus accommodation too, so you can research both the options and then take a call depending upon your budget and preference.
Life as a student in London is rather convenient and the public transport system is simply awesome. No matter where you want to go, you have an option to connect with the tube. Further, London is a multi-cultural city, very well planned, beautiful, liveable and friendly. It is a fine amalgam of art and culture, education, history, royalty, sports, tourism, entertainment, technology and the finance world.
My academic pursuit in UK has exposed me to people from different cultures and their varied mindsets. It has provided me with a fresh perspective of the true meaning of diversity and the importance of an international network in a small world. International business and “Internationalization” is no longer a subject of specialization for me, but a way of learning and adoption that manifests itself in the internet-driven digital world.
The experience of a distant land as “International” and holistic as the U.K. is best felt as a student. I am glad my decision to pursue higher studies in UK has been such a rewarding and enriching experience – I am today an “International” youth citizen of the world
